The TGA Open Championship 2011 - Results

We couldn't have asked for a better day to play our first major of the season. Certainly a great day to be on the golf course, but not a good day to be wearing orange trousers.
Ian Manthorp set the early pace with a front nine 39, for 22 points but dropped a couple of vital points on the back nine. Tony Smith got off to a shaky start, driving out of bounds on the first hole, but steadied the ship to shoot a back nine 40 which included 2 birdies, but David Summers bested everyone shooting a stunning 86 for 41 points, which included 10 pars, to become the inaugural TGA Open Champion, and pick up his 2nd win on the TGA Tour.
Tony Smith continued hitting the ball like a jackhammer to pick up his 2nd consecutive long drive title, and Mark Wilson took the prize for nearest to the pin.
The first major of the year is in the books, Masters next, seeyou all soon.

TGA Throston Open 2011 - Results

Another grim start and it looked like the TGA weather curse had struck again, but fortunately, as the round progressed, the weather improved and despite the wind the course played well, and this was proved by the scoring, with more than half of the 18 man field shooting 36 points or better.
Christian Reed shot 3 consecutive pars around the turn on his way to a share of 3rd place along with Paul Jewitt, who produced another solid round, and Chris Green, who carded a birdie and 5 pars to join them on 37 points. TGA Debutant John Diggins carded a front nine 39, with a birdie and 8 pars in the round for a runners up spot on 39 points, but it was Jane Baillie, who came so close to winning here in the Golfshake Open qualifier in 2010, who blew away the field shooting 7 pars and a total of 82 for 41 points, and claims her first win on the 2011 Tour.
Ian Manthorp took the first nearest to the pin on the deceivingly short 8th hole, leaving the ball only 4 foot from the pin. Dave Brown hit a scorcher of a drive to get the Long Drive title, and Jane Baillie crowned her win with the Nearest to the pin on the 16th.
Golf is so much more enjoyable in nice weather.
